After 27 years at SVT, Erika Bjerström is leaving her position to become a freelancer, reports Expressen.
In an interview with the newspaper, she says that the decision has been preceded by a "grieving process" and that she thought it was "fun to be a pioneer" in the role of climate correspondent. She has held that position since 2019. Many viewers will likely also remember her as SVT's correspondent in the EU, Africa, and the USA. To Expressen, Erika Bjerström says that the reason she is quitting is because she wants a "freer role as a freelancer".
The role of climate correspondent will not be reappointed, but climate journalism will continue to be prioritized, writes Nyheter SVT's program manager Karin Ekman on the organization's blog.
