A judge in New Mexico, USA, has dismissed Alec Baldwin's lawsuit for malicious prosecution and violation of his civil rights after the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during the filming of the movie "Rust" in 2021.
The judge dismissed the case since no major progress had been made, but Baldwin has the opportunity to refile the lawsuit within 30 days.
The lawsuit was directed against prosecutors and police investigators, who according to Baldwin acted for political or professional reasons. A separate civil case from Hutchins' family is still ongoing.
Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter but the trial was dropped last year due to allegations that the police and prosecutors had withheld evidence from the defense.
The film's armorer, 24-year-old Hanna Gutierrez Reed, has previously been sentenced to one and a half years in prison for involuntary manslaughter.
