The appeal, which was initiated by the journalist Magda Gad, is a protest against the fact that international journalists are not allowed into Gaza.

Yesterday, Sveriges Radio announced that they may stop the employees who have signed the appeal from reporting on Gaza.

Employees at Ekot have freedom of speech like everyone else, but if they take a public stance on controversial issues, it can affect which issues they can monitor, says press chief Claes Bertilsson to Dagens Media.

SVT may also stop the employees who signed Magda Gad's appeal.

Generally - if you take a stand on an issue, you cannot also monitor it, says Anne Lagercrantz, CEO of SVT.

On the other hand, she says that SVT supports the message in the appeal: journalists must be able to report freely and safely from Gaza.

Svenska Dagbladet and Aftonbladet have no plans to stop employees who have signed the appeal from reporting on Gaza.

Approximately 500 people within the Swedish media have signed the appeal, which has been published in Expressen.
