The lawyers have claimed that Combs is exposed to "ongoing threats" in the prison in Brooklyn, New York, where he has been sitting since he was arrested in September last year. But the prosecutors believe that the situation in the prison has improved significantly already before Combs ended up there. They also state that nothing in substance has changed since the verdict against him came, and therefore urge the responsible judge not to grant bail.
Combs has been convicted of two cases of transport for the purpose of facilitating prostitution, after he hired male escorts for his girlfriends in so-called "freak-offs". He was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and extortion conspiracy.
Combs will receive his sentence on October 3. The prosecutors estimate the sentence to be between four and five years, while the defense believes that the sentence should be a maximum of just over two years. His lawyers claim that others who have committed similar crimes have been released on bail, and argue that he should not be in prison for his lifestyle as a "swinger".
