A woman in her 60s has been shot to death in Akalla, northwestern Stockholm. The police have initiated an investigation into murder.

The police were alerted to the scene shortly after 7 pm on Tuesday. They reported that it concerned a suspected serious crime committed indoors, but were very secretive about the incident otherwise.

By 11 pm, the police announced on their website that it involved a woman in her 60s who was found dead with gunshot wounds. No one has been arrested.

According to the police, they did not receive any alarm about gunfire, which is why a crucial part of the investigation has focused on the timing of the crime.

Expressen reports that residents in the area claim to have heard bangs as early as the early afternoon.

According to information in several media outlets, the woman was related to a gang criminal.
