Around 30 students in Chile were injured by Molotov cocktails on Wednesday. The explosion is said to have occurred when the students themselves handled the firebombs inside their boarding school in the capital Santiago de Chile.
According to the country's Health Minister Ximena Aguilera, five of the students are critically injured. It is unclear, according to the police, why the explosion occurred.
The situation is a tragedy. Molotov cocktails are weapons, says Chile's Interior Minister Carolina Toha, adding that they are not "acceptable tools for protests".
In recent years, students from the school in question have repeatedly participated in demonstrations and clashes with the police, demanding more resources for education.
