Strömmer: "The Shooting Shakes the Society"

Two 14-year-olds are suspected of being involved in a shooting at a shopping center in Kungsbacka over the weekend. It's clear that such a shooting shakes a community, says Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (The Moderate Party) to TT.

The Minister will visit Kungsbacka on Wednesday where the shooting took place over the weekend.

I travel a lot and often to places where crimes have occurred that have affected society.

The shooting occurred on a Sunday when many people were shopping at a shopping center with many employees and visitors present, says Strömmer and adds that it has naturally affected society.

In Kungsbacka, he will talk to people who in various ways are working with the shooting, such as the police, the municipality, and those responsible for the shopping center. The two suspects in the case are 14 years old. One is suspected of attempted murder, the other of aiding and abetting.

Strömmer does not want to comment on the case, as it is very early in the investigation.

We have seen for a long time how serious and gross crimes are affecting younger and younger people. That's why we're reforming our criminal policy in several areas, he says.

He lists measures such as tougher penalties for young people, youth prisons, and general coercive measures for young people.

All of this is an expression of the seriousness of the situation we see in our society, says Gunnar Strömmer.
