A Japanese farmer has been convicted of stealing over 200 kilos of spring onions from a competitor.
During the trial in Kyoto, the 28-year-old man blamed the weather for his crime. The hot summer made his own harvest so poor that he saw himself forced, he said according to local media.
The court, however, saw no mitigating circumstances and sentenced the man to two years in prison.
This summer, together with last summer, was the warmest ever recorded in Japan. The famous Mount Fuji did not get any snow until early November – about a month later than usual.
