Texas Democrats End Protest and Return Home

The Democrats in the Texas state congress are going back home to their state. The politicians have been in hiding for almost two weeks to stop the state's attempt to redraw the boundaries of the electoral district to the Republicans' advantage.

After the message from California that the state will also redraw its maps - and thus counterbalance the Texas proposal - around 50 politicians are ending their protest.

With enough Democrats back home, the Republican proposal can now be voted through, but apparently will not mean the extra seats in the US Congress in Washington DC that the party intended with the new electoral district boundaries.

"We return to Texas more dangerous for the Republicans' plan than when we left, Our return allows us to build up the legal basis necessary to defeat this racist map in the courts and take our message to communities across the state and country", says the Democrats' group leader in Texas, Gene Wu, in a statement.

California's Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom has for weeks both in speeches and on social media attacked President Donald Trump. Newsom said last week that he is calling a special election on November 4 about the redrawn maps that favor Democrats.

We cannot hold back and see our democracy lose state by state across the country, said Newsom and continued:

Donald Trump, you have awakened the bear and we will strike back.
