The official figure, which was made public on Monday, is said to be 62,004 fatalities in Gaza. An additional 156,230 inhabitants of the Gaza Strip are injured since the war began on October 7, 2023, according to the authority controlled by the terror-stamped Hamas.
The Health Department estimates that over 1,960 people have been killed when seeking emergency aid or trying to get to aid stations.
The Department does not distinguish between combatants and civilians in the calculations of the death toll. The UN and other independent experts consider the information to be the most credible as independent organizations have difficulty operating in Gaza.
The war broke out after Hamas and additional militant Islamist groups attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. Over 1,100 people were killed and an additional 250 were taken as hostages.
