Kanye West appeared in an ad for the site that aired in southern California during the Super Bowl. In the somewhat bizarre segment, which was filmed with an iPhone and showed the rapper sitting in what appeared to be a dentist's chair, he urged viewers to visit the website.
When the ad aired, the website had a range of West's fashion items available, but a short time later, only one item was available to choose from – a white t-shirt with a large black swastika on the front for 20 dollars.
According to the entertainment website Variety, the 30-second ad snippet had gone through the usual channels for approval, including a review of the website, and no offensive content had been flagged.
But on Tuesday, the site, which is run by the e-commerce company Shopify, was down.
"All merchants are responsible for following the rules of our platform. This merchant did not engage in serious business practices and violated our terms", the company said in a statement.
The new controversy comes just a few days after Kanye West was banned from X. The rapper published a series of Nazi statements and pornographic content on the platform over the weekend.
