The Social Democrats want to completely abolish the sickness benefit deduction. It is completely unreasonable and unfair, says S leader Magdalena Andersson.

She points out that today's sick pay deduction is unfair, since salaried employees have a greater opportunity to work from home when they are ill, unlike many in LO-professions.

It is not uncommon for the same occupational groups to have slightly lower salaries, and for them, the sick pay deduction means a hard economic blow, says Magdalena Andersson.

Abolishing the sick pay deduction is an expression of a modern and fair labor policy, which is good for ordinary people and thus also for Sweden.

The party executive is now submitting a proposal to the S-congress at the end of May to drive the abolition of the sick pay deduction for all wage earners. Removing it only for the occupational groups that are most disadvantaged would be too complicated, according to the S.

Andersson estimates that the proposal will cost the state treasury at least five billion kronor.

The LO and the trade union movement are already pushing for the abolition of the sick pay deduction. Not unexpectedly, the news is therefore welcomed in many unions.

Finally! exclaims Handels. And Kommunal sees it as a victory for the hundreds of thousands of members who have signed petitions, participated in demonstrations, and demonstrated to abolish the sick pay deduction.
