A 53-year-old man is sentenced to one year in prison after being caught with around 750,000 illegal cigarettes and 198 liters of spirits in the car, reports Dagens Juridik.
The cigarettes lacked Swedish warning text. How they entered Sweden is unclear, however, it is clear that it did not happen entirely according to protocol. The goods are therefore subject to either customs offense or tax offense.
The man knew that the cigarettes and alcohol were in the car. But he did not know how large the quantity was, where they came from or if they were genuine. According to Dagens Juridik, he did not want to say where he was headed or if he had been promised any compensation for the drive.
The man is sentenced for gross unauthorized handling of excise duty goods. The cigarettes would have been taxed for just over one and a half million kronor.
