Several shots were fired at Berga church in Linköping on August 13 last year. The shots hit a 41-year-old man, who is said to have been a leading figure in the so-called Berga network, and who died from the injuries.
Now charges are being brought for murder against three men and a 17-year-old. They are said to have been so involved in the planning and execution of the murder that they should be considered as perpetrators, says Magdalena Tesfai, senior prosecutor at Linköping District Court, in a press release.
Charges of complicity have also been brought against a minor, a 14-year-old, who according to the investigation is said to have acted as the shooter during the incident.
The other four men are in turn being charged with aiding and abetting the murder.
It is a case of "an execution-like and brutal murder in a public place in the middle of the day, in a densely populated residential area", says Magdalena Tesfai in the press release.
The charges also include involving a minor in crime, serious obstruction of justice, serious weapons offenses and several cases of serious narcotics offenses. The evidence against the accused men and the 14-year-old consists, among other things, of DNA evidence, surveillance footage and information from seized mobile phones.
The trial begins at Linköping District Court on August 19 and is expected to last for 18 days.
