”Starvation is spreading before our eyes”, they write in the statement.
The countries are urging Israel to allow emergency aid into Gaza, including food, medical equipment and clean water. They are also calling for a ceasefire and the release of hostages, and thank the USA, Qatar and Egypt for their efforts in the area.
Several organizations have warned of starvation in Gaza, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the UN and Save the Children.
A total of 24 countries, of which 17 are within the EU, have signed the statement. In addition to Sweden, others on the list include Finland, Australia and Portugal.
One country that has not signed is Germany, which since the Second World War has shown great support for Israel. However, the country decided as recently as last week to stop arms exports to Israel.
Among the signatories are also three EU actors. One of them is the union's foreign chief Kaja Kallas.
