High Forest Fire Risk in Southern Sweden This Week

The coming days pose a great, very great – and locally extremely great – risk for forest and land fires in extensive areas in southern Sweden, according to SMHI.

According to the weather authority, the risk assessment applies on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for parts of eastern and northern Götaland as well as parts of Skåne and eastern Svealand.

Primarily on Öland – as well as locally in Skåne and northern Götaland – the risk is considered extremely high.

People are asked to consider that hazardous fires can easily occur due to, for example, burning, sparks from machines or lightning strikes.

A piece of advice is to check if a burning ban applies in your current area, and to be very cautious.

Additionally, the weather in the areas will be warm in the near future and then the fire spreads easily in forests and land, and can, among other things, cause disruptions in the power and telephone network when they ravage cable routes.

There is also a locally high risk of fires in forests and land in parts of northern Västerbotten, but that risk ceases at 23.00 on Wednesday.

SMHI has also flagged high daytime temperatures in southern and southeastern Götaland. From Wednesday and until Friday, temperatures above 26 degrees and up to 30 degrees locally are expected in large parts of Skåne, Blekinge and Småland.
