On Wednesday, he will be brought to justice at Eksjö district court suspected of gross animal cruelty, reports P4 Jönköping.

A neighbor alerted the police in June after hearing sheep "bleating desperately" from the man's garden. When the police arrived at the scene, they found four dead sheep in the basement, and the man then stated that he had performed a halal slaughter to celebrate the birth of his newborn child.

Halal slaughter, which is a Muslim slaughter method where the animals' throats are cut, is legal in Sweden if anesthesia is first administered so that the animals lose consciousness.

The man denies the crime and has later stated that he used a stun gun to anesthetize the animals.
