Swimmer Sarah Sjöström will chase world records directly after the OS in Paris – in her own competition Sjöström Invitational.

After the 2017 VM, Sjöström set four world records in ten days in the short course in the world cup.

Sjöström's gala is arranged at Eriksdalsbadet in Stockholm on August 12 and will be decided in short course with both Swedish and international participants. Additionally, children born in 2008 – the year Sjöström won her first international championship medal – will be invited to the competition.

It will be a knockout competition on the 50-meter distances with quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals.

Sjöström is chasing the world record in the 50-meter butterfly, which Therese Alshammar set in 2009 at 24.38, and in the 50-meter freestyle, where Ranomi Kromowidjojo has the record at 22.93.

Sjöström has not focused on short course in recent years but has previously held world records in 50, 100, and 200 meters freestyle and 100 meters butterfly in a 25-meter pool.

Sjöström's focus during the OS is on the 50-meter freestyle as the only individual distance, as 50-meter butterfly is not included in the OS program.

The swimming competitions at the OS will take place from July 27 to August 4.
