Viktor Gyökeres transfer from Portuguese Sporting – where he has been responsible for goal successes in recent seasons – to Arsenal was one of the hottest this summer in Premier League football.
The premiere last weekend, however, got Gyökeres to leave goalless. He was substituted out in the 60th minute away against Manchester United (1–0 win) at Old Trafford.
But in his home debut against newcomer Leeds, he struck. In the 48th minute, he cut in from the left edge into the penalty area and sent the ball in at the first post to 3–0.
In stoppage time, the Swede got the chance from the penalty spot and he made no mistake. The second goal in an Arsenal jersey was a fact and the London club won 5–0.
I am very pleased with the result. Of course, it was nice to score two goals as well, says Gyökeres to Sky Sports according to Expressen.
It was important for me to play 90 minutes and get rhythm. I become more and more comfortable with how we play and I think it showed today. I am comfortable when the ball comes in behind the defense and get to cut in towards the field. I know that I will take advantage of such opportunities, he says to the English TV channel according to TV4 Football Channel.
Before Gyökeres' 3–0 goal, Jurriën Timber and Bukayo Saka had scored for Arsenal during the first half. Timber also set the 4–0 goal for the London club.
