ICA and Coop Stores Hit by Overnight Refrigeration and Freezer Problems

A number of ICA and Coop stores experienced problems with their refrigerators and freezers overnight.

We are aware that a limited number of stores were affected by an incident overnight that affected their refrigeration and freezer systems. Ica is providing support in handling the incident, says Gustaf Nilsson, press officer at the Ica Group, to TT.

Nilsson does not want to say how many Ica stores have been affected.

Ica Kvantum in Sjöbo writes on Facebook that the problems with its refrigeration systems were caused by a hack, but the Ica Group has not confirmed this.

The temperature in the refrigerators and freezers is said to have risen to 50 degrees, according to the Ica store.

Coop also confirms that some of its stores have been affected by the problems.

“We have just received information that six stores in central Sweden have experienced problems with their refrigerators and freezers,” says Carlos Cancino, press officer at Coop.

He has not yet received information about whether any food has had to be discarded, or whether the refrigerators simply stopped working or also switched to heating.

“I do not rule out that there may also be more affected stores,” says Cancino.
