Sjögran welcomes MFF: "Bloody fantastic"

Several key players are on expiring contracts and next season Rosengård will likely face competition in their hometown. Then Malmö FF will probably play in the women's top division. It's going to be really tough, says sports manager Therese Sjögran.

Captain Caroline Seger, 39, seems to have at least decided that this is her last season in the Rosengård jersey, but she is hesitant about whether it's the end of her career for good.

Additionally, Olivia Holdt, on-loan Momoko Tanikawa (from Bayern München), Rebecca Knaak, and Ria Öling are on outgoing contracts. The three aforementioned players have scored a total of 37 goals this season.

How will these players be replaced if they all leave?

It's a long-term job and it has already begun. I'm not worried about us solving it, says Rosengård's sports manager Therese Sjögran after securing the SM gold on Friday.

Replacing Seger as a player and leader is impossible, according to Sjögran.

We just have to find other solutions. You can't find another Seger.

Rosengård has in recent years already faced competition from so-called double clubs like Häcken and Hammarby – associations that have both men's and women's teams in the country's top football leagues.

Now Rosengård will have to compete against such a club in their hometown. Malmö FF – which restarted its women's team in 2020 – can secure promotion to Damallsvenskan on Saturday.

I don't think MFF will fail with the position they have now. It's just a matter of wishing them good luck – it can be exciting matches next year, says Therese Sjögran.

MFF's women's team reaches Damallsvenskan as early as Saturday with a win away against Eskilstuna, while Umeå drops points away against bottom-placed Sundsvall.

FC Rosengård has now won a total of 14 SM gold medals, including the titles taken under the names Malmö FF and Ldb Malmö.

MFF founded its women's team in 1970 and took SM gold in 1986, 1990, 1991, 1993, and 1994. In the mid-2000s, the women's team broke away from the main association, but played under a few Damallsvenska seasons under the name Malmö FF Dam.

In the 2007 season, the association changed its name to Ldb Malmö and before the 2014 season, it was changed to the current FC Rosengård.

Before the 2020 season, Malmö FF started a women's team again, which began in division 4. The team has taken four straight series wins and is now close to promotion to Damallsvenskan.

Two teams are promoted from Elitettan – Alingsås tops the table with 54 points and is second on 53 points. Third-placed Umeå, on a qualifying spot, has 41 points. Five rounds remain in the series.
