The perpetrator was suspected of a crime in connection with a house search in June. He was found dead shortly thereafter, according to Emma Vangstad, group leader of the police for internet-related child abuse.
A large number of images were found on the man's computer during the house search, showing sexual abuse of children, taken between 2018-2024.
No Charges
Nine preschool children in Ljusdal could be identified and their plaintiffs have been informed.
We are not conducting a criminal investigation due to the suspect being deceased and no charges will be brought, says Vangstad at an online information meeting in Ljusdal.
According to Vangstad, there are no unidentified children in the material seized by the police.
This is a trauma for the Ljusdal municipality, says Mikael Björk, municipal director in Ljusdal at the information meeting.
According to Linnea van Wagenen, head of the municipal administration in Ljusdal, the man was employed as a childcare worker in 2012. He has since been employed at four preschools in the municipality, but has also worked as a substitute in other activities.
"Could we have done something more?"
The municipality has followed all routines and made registry extracts, and there were never any suspicions directed against the man before the revelation last summer.
Could we have done something more? asks van Wagenen.
If it turns out that we have followed our routines and this has still happened, we must change them, she adds.
The municipality plans to hold more information meetings about the incident.
