Samuelsson Steals the Show at Biathlon World Cup Finale

In the last World Cup race, Swedish biathlete Sebastian Samuelsson struck. When everything was about the Bø brothers, the 27-year-old stole the show and thrilled the Norwegian audience when he crossed the finish line first. I did it with love, he says in SVT.

Sebastian Samuelsson showed good form from the start in the mass start with high speed on the tracks and full shooting in the first two visits to the range.

In the third shooting, he missed, but the 27-year-old biathlete could repair the mistake and was second before the final shooting.

And when the pressure was highest, he delivered.

It becomes a mental battle, I like those situations. I love to get in and have the chance, and today I take it, he says in SVT.

"Drive a little"

Full shooting again and then a relatively easy way to the finish line, which he crossed first.

He could even wave to the standing audience on the final stretch.

It's a dream I've had to get to come in on Holmenkollen and drive a little with the audience. I did it with love and it was fantastically fun to win here, of course.

"Very proud"

The victory was his second individual one during the World Championship season and advanced him to a fine fourth place in the total.

I will always remember that I won Johannes and Tarjei's last race. I'll take that with me and am very proud of it.

Yes, much had been about the Bø brothers beforehand – who made their last race.

Johannes Thingnes Bø finished seventh in the end and Tarjei Bø, who had been sick before the final weekend, crossed the finish line as 23rd.

"Has been brutal"

Then they celebrated with champagne in the finish area.

It's been a long journey for us that boils down to this moment, the last finish line we cross in the World Cup. To do it here in Holmenkollen together, we've had a journey as a family over the years and it's been brutal to do it together with you (Tarjei), says Johannes in SVT.

Tarjei adds:

"Incredible day"

An incredible day, my first on site during this weekend. I'm so glad I could start today and enjoy. I'm trying to take it all in.

Second was Frenchman Eric Perrot and third was Norwegian Endre Strømsheim. On Saturday, Sturla Holm Lægreid secured the overall World Championship title.

Otherwise, Jesper Nelin finished 12th, Martin Ponsiluoma 17th and Viktor Brandt 25th.

Correction: In an earlier version, the wrong city was stated where Samuelsson grew up, the passage is now rewritten without the city.
