King Harald's and Queen Sonja's final resting place will cost 20 million Norwegian kronor, according to the Norwegian state budget for 2025.
The Norwegian court confirms in a press release that it is in the process of acquiring a sarcophagus for the royal couple. The sarcophagus will be placed in the royal burial chapel at Akershus Fortress, where previous Norwegian kings also rest.
The Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta has been commissioned to design the coffin, a project that has already begun.
87-year-old King Harald has been plagued by a range of health problems over the past year and has, among other things, had a pacemaker implanted. Queen Sonja is also 87.
