The small town of Umanske in Donetsk in eastern Ukraine has fallen into Russian hands, claims Russia's Defense Ministry. Russia is on the offensive and has made territorial gains in the region in recent times.
Umanske had fewer than 180 inhabitants before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
The Ukrainian forces have been pushed back for months, but especially since Russia began a new offensive around the city of Kharkiv in early May. Ukraine hopes that an imminent delivery of Western ammunition will help its soldiers regain the upper hand on the battlefield again.
