At the same time, the WHO chief announces that the number of deaths due to starvation and malnutrition is increasing in Gaza.

So far this year, 99 people have died from malnutrition, including 29 children under the age of five. These reported figures are likely underestimated, he says.

On Wednesday, the Hamas-controlled health department announced that a total of 188 people, 94 of them children, had died as a result of starvation and malnutrition.

The people of Gaza have "limited access to basic services, have been affected by repeated displacement and are now suffering from a blockade of food", according to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The WHO chief urges increased, sustained and unhindered aid to be allowed to flow into Gaza, through all possible routes.
