Google needs to pay a fine of 20 quintillion dollars, 20 followed by 33 zeros, claims a Russian court. The information comes from the Russian media channel RBC. According to RBC, the fine is based on Google's decision to shut down most YouTube accounts, the majority of them after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. According to RBC, the fine from the Russian side has doubled every week since 2020 and is now up to the equivalent of 20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 dollars.
Google recently released its quarterly report for the third quarter. The revenues then landed at, in this context, modest, 88.2 billion dollars.
Even all the money in the world is small change compared to the Russian fines. The World Bank estimates the global GDP at around 100 billion dollars. That is 100 followed by 12 zeros. At least 20 zeros too few to reach the Russian fine amount.
