Brian Molko risks a fine of up to 5,000 euros, equivalent to 56,000 kronor, for what is called "contempt of institutions". This is something that can be punished for publicly disparaging the republic, which also includes the government, parliament, courts, and the army, according to Italian law.
It was during a concert in Turin in August 2023 that Molko shouted "Giorgia Meloni, bloody hell, fascist, racist" in Italian.
Giorgia Meloni, who represents the nationalist right-wing party Brothers of Italy, took office in 2022 and is the country's first female prime minister.
Placebo broke through in the mid-1990s with hit singles like "Nancy Boy" and "Pure Morning". The group consists of Brian Molko and Swedish musician Stefan Olsdal.
