Ridley Scott is considering a third film to complete a full "Gladiator" trilogy. He says this in an interview with the French film magazine "Première", according to The Independent, just weeks before the premiere of "Gladiator II" – 24 years after the first film.
I'm already bouncing ideas for a "Gladiator 3". A spark has been lit, says the director, revealing that the ending of the upcoming "Gladiator II" echoes the ending of "The Godfather II" – and thus opens the door to a third film.
The lead actor in "Gladiator II", Irishman Paul Mescal, says that Ridley Scott has talked to him about the possibility of a sequel.
I'm of course interested. But we can't rush it, and let the story unfold.
The first "Gladiator" film premiered in 2000 and there (spoiler) the main character Maximus, played by Russell Crowe, was killed in the end. It was rumored that he would appear in a "flashback" scene in "Gladiator II", but Crowe has denied this in interviews.
"Gladiator II" has its Swedish cinema premiere on November 15.
