No motive has yet been found for the deed. In the preliminary investigation, footage has been examined showing damaged vehicles and reindeer.
"We have seized a passenger car and it will be examined by forensic technicians," says assistant prosecutor Anna Nilsson in a press release.
Earlier in February, three reindeer were found with their throats cut – one was also said to have gunshot wounds in its body. The bodies were discovered along a forest road outside central Umeå, not far from one of the stages of the World Championship rally Rally Sweden, which began the same week.
Several of the nearby Sami villages have been critical of the conditions of some of the stages, which they consider unsuitable given that the Sami have their reindeer on winter grazing in the vicinity, according to SVT Västerbotten.
