More than a year and a half after TT-Lines' ferry Marco Polo ran aground, the bill continues to rise, reports SVT Blekinge.

Most money has gone to Sölvesborg Municipality, where the most severely affected coastal stretch is located. There are also claims for an additional 2 million kronor from Sölvesborg, Karlshamn and Kristianstad that have not yet been paid out.

Our starting point is that we will get back all the money we have paid out from the shipping company's insurance company, since our assessment is that the compensation claims from the municipalities are reasonable, says Johan Olsson, administrator at MSB to SVT.

The cleanup costs may rise further if new oil is discovered.

Approximately 60,000 liters of oil leaked out, which had major consequences, the beaches along Listerlandet were smeared and birds were injured.
