During the third quarter, 5.6 billion kronor were paid out from the unemployment insurance fund, an increase of 43 percent compared to the same period last year. The increase is widespread across the entire country.
"The fact that unemployment is high is evident in the record-high payments from the unemployment insurance fund. It becomes clear evidence that in tough times, the unemployment insurance fund has an important function as both a security and reorientation insurance," says Tomas Eriksson, secretary-general of Sweden's unemployment insurance funds in a press release.
