The power grid has gone down across Venezuela, according to Communications Minister Freddy Ñáñez, as reported by AFP. He blames the problems on sabotage.
At 4:40 am (10:40 Swedish time) today, Friday, an electrical sabotage occurred, says Ñáñez to state-owned VTV.
The sabotage affects almost the entire nation. All 24 states report complete or partial power outages.
Venezuela has over 30 million inhabitants. In addition to 23 regular states and the capital area of Caracas, it also consists of islands in the Caribbean Sea.
During a period of political unrest in 2019, Venezuela was hit by regular power outages, which the government often blamed on its opponents, but which, according to energy experts, were due to, among other things, poor maintenance of the country's hydroelectric infrastructure.
Many of the energy problems have decreased as the South American nation's economy has stabilized, with a reduced shortage of imported goods and a decrease in high inflation.
