The shooting occurred inside the school just before 8:30 am on Wednesday. It took place in a confined space where no one else was present except those involved. According to information obtained by Aftonbladet, the shooting occurred in a school toilet.
The injured student, who is 15 years old, was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment.
He was awake and able to speak at the time, says Peter Berggren, local police chief in Huddinge.
Attempted Murder and Gross Violation of Weapons Regulations
A 15-year-old has been arrested during the day, suspected of attempted murder and gross violation of weapons regulations.
"An intensive investigation is currently underway to clarify exactly what happened", says Kajsa Lindberg, prosecutor and head of the preliminary investigation, in a press release.
She does not want to comment on the extent of the injuries or any potential motive. The police consider the incident to be an isolated event and are not looking for any other suspects.
Huddinge Municipality initially reported that the student was injured by an air rifle shot, but later retracted the statement. The police do not want to comment on what type of weapon was used.
A weapon was found at the scene and has been seized, says Berggren.
"Conflict that Escalated"
At lunchtime, Principal Kaj Majuri held a press conference at the school and stated that a conflict between students had escalated. He further stated that the school had not received any signals that something like this could happen.
I know that these students had a conflict a few years ago, but we resolved it then, says the principal.
It was a bolt from the blue that this would happen like this.
The principal describes it as terrible that a student brought a weapon to school. He has not heard of any gang rivalry at the school.

All guardians were informed about the incident afterwards. Many chose to pick up their children, even though the school remained open.
Students at the school tell TT that they were confined to their classrooms after the shooting.

The principal claims, however, that no doors were locked.
Several students describe the school as calm.
Nothing like this has ever happened here before, says another.
