Then Marie Sneve Martinussen stood in the Norwegian parliament's speaker's podium and referred to her wool sweater to poke fun at the Swedish evening newspaper.
We're only in February, but we've already got a good candidate for the word of the year. Wool sweater socialism is a wonderful concept, said the Rødt leader during a question hour in an ongoing energy debate.
The word was written in a leader article on Expressen's liberal editorial page last week, to criticize the Norwegian government's plans for a price cap on the Norwegians' electricity prices, where the state pays the remaining cost.
"Jonas Gahr Støre's wool sweater socialism will, after all, remove the driving force to keep consumption down when supply is at its lowest and demand is at its highest. This leads to higher and fluctuating prices for everyone trading on the Nordic electricity market, including Swedish households and companies", it said in the article, signed by the editorial board in large.
Energy Minister Terje Aasland from the Social Democratic Labour Party also highlighted it as a positive term during the question hour in parliament, as "an expression of taking care of Norwegian interests".
