For 15 years as national team captain, Thorir Hergeirsson has led Norway's women's handball team to 16 championship medals, including ten gold medals.
But after the European Championship at the end of the year, the Icelander is saying goodbye.
It has been an adventurous journey, he says at a press conference.
The now 60-year-old Hergeirsson took over Norway's national team in 2009. The tenth championship gold medal was won as recently as a month ago, when Norway defeated France in the Olympic Games final in Lille.
The European Championship, where the Norwegian women are reigning champions, will be played in Switzerland, Hungary, and Austria, and begins on November 28.
