Norway is donating 50,000 artillery shells worth around 480 million Norwegian kroner to Ukraine. This is part of the support in the so-called Nansen package for long-term military and civilian aid to Ukraine.
Ukraine's need for firepower is extensive and acute. After dialogue with the defence, we have assessed what we can additionally donate from the defence's stockpiles, which can be quickly sent to Ukraine. We have now donated artillery shells worth approximately 480 million Norwegian kroner, says Defence Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.
This corresponds to almost 470 million Swedish kronor.
Bjørn Arild Gram emphasises that this does not mean that the Norwegian stockpiles will be depleted.
We still have items in stock. But it's a difficult balancing act to assess what we need for our own protection and what we can send to Ukraine, he says.
The ammunition that Norway is now donating to Ukraine can be used in weapons that are already in place.
