Norway is increasing its support to the UN's Palestine organization Unrwa by 100 million Norwegian kronor. This means that the Norwegian contribution to the organization this year is 475 million kronor.

Development Minister Anne Beathe Tvinnereim (Sp) says in a press release that "Unrwa is the backbone of all humanitarian aid in Gaza".

Last week, there have been several reports of attacks on Unrwa schools in Gaza. The Israeli military claims that Hamas is using the schools.

The Norwegian support is being presented on the same day as the UN is holding a donor conference for Unrwa.

Let me be clear, there are no alternatives to Unrwa. My appeal to all of you is: Protect Unrwa, its employees, and its mandate, said UN Secretary-General António Guterres there.

The Swedish government paid out 100 million kronor to Unrwa at the end of June. This year, Sweden will send a total of 400 million kronor to the organization.

Sweden and many other countries stopped aid to Unrwa at the end of 2023 after allegations that employees had participated in terrorist attacks against Israel on October 7.
