Northvolt is in a deep economic crisis. The battery manufacturer owes suppliers 2.5 billion kronor and has recently laid off over 1,100 employees. Despite the emergency situation, the company wants to pay out 59 million kronor in a bonus program to selected employees, reports SVT.
The TV channel writes, referring to court documents, that it concerns around 230 employees who will receive bonus money.
It is about a bonus program to retain key personnel. According to Northvolt, however, it does not include people in the company's top management.
The program is said to have been introduced before the application for bankruptcy protection was filed in the USA. The bonuses consist, according to SVT, of between three and nine extra monthly salaries.
