Recently, battery manufacturer Northvolt announced that they will implement major cost-cutting measures and, among other things, lay off staff. People who came to Skellefteå from other countries to work have been dismissed on their first day – before they even got started, according to Ekot.

The union is critical.

They have left their entire life behind to invest in a future here. I would like to see Northvolt answer the question of how they plan to take care of these people, says Lena Lundgren, local coordinator at IF Metall, to Ekot.

Northvolt has not disclosed how many will have to leave, but according to internal information, it concerns temporary employees and staff from staffing agencies in the affected department.
