The adoption commission set up by the previous government will not propose a ban on international adoptions, reports SVT News.

It was in October that Expressen gained access to an unpublished report showing that the commission discussed such a ban – which caused concern among adoptees, adoptive parents, and organizations.

But there will be no ban, according to Anna Singer, who leads the commission's work.

On the other hand, we have discussed how to regulate international adoption in the future. There are many different ways to regulate it, she says in SVT's Agenda.

She says that the adoption commission, for example, has discussed transferring adoption mediation to state control – and emphasizes that "there will be a need for international adoptions, even in the future".
