A car crashed into a tree in Botkyrka south of Stockholm at around 20:00 on Tuesday. Witnesses heard gunfire and saw several people leaving the scene in connection with the crash.
In the car, a man in his 20s with gunshot wounds was found, who later was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Damages to the car also indicate that some form of explosion had occurred, and the national bomb squad was called to the scene in the evening to investigate the car.
According to information to TV4 News and Aftonbladet, the police suspect that it may have been a hand grenade.
The car had damages that we do not know how they occurred. At present, we cannot rule out anything. Then I do not want to be so specific about how these damages look and what we think it could be, says police spokesperson Daniel Wikdahl to TT on Wednesday.
The car will undergo a technical examination. Camera material from the area has also been collected and will be reviewed, says Wikdahl.
Do you suspect gang connections?
There is nothing clear at present that points to that type of crime, but we will continue to look into those aspects, says Daniel Wikdahl.
