Green party (MP) will change its current party program, which is from 2013, at the congress in October.

The biggest changes are that we adapt to reality, as it is today, says party secretary Katrin Wissing who presented the congress documents on Monday.

The proposed new party program means that many changes to the party's policies made in recent years are now also written into the program, for example, that the party accepts NATO membership.

Will oppose

The formulation from 2013 that MP "opposes" new nuclear power has however been left unchanged. In the party board's first proposal, which was on referral during the spring, it was removed. This sparked internal criticism that the party's opposition to nuclear power is being toned down.

We have now reinstated the sentence that says we oppose new nuclear power in Sweden's energy supply, says party board chairman Marcus Friberg.

On the other hand, the formulation from 2013 that the decommissioning of existing nuclear power should be initiated "immediately" is no longer present

We want to phase out existing nuclear power as the renewable energy sources grow, says Friberg.

This is a line that the party has already supported at the congress in 2023.

Conflict with S?

Nuclear power is an issue that could cause problems in a potential government cooperation with the Social Democrats after next year's election. There are also other potential areas of conflict.

In the proposal for a new party program, it is stated that new mines should first be considered as a last resort, despite the increasing need for metals and minerals in society. Resource efficiency, recycling, and mining in existing mines should be tested first.

In the new party program, it is also stated that the party wants a humane and legally secure migration policy, that the right to asylum should be protected and that Sweden should be open to labor immigration.

It is also stated that MP wants to legislate on reduced normal working hours, where a 35-hour workweek is a first step, "with the vision of a four-day workweek".

More concrete information on what policies MP will pursue during the next term will be presented in an action program, which is now being developed. It will be adopted at a digital extraordinary congress in March next year.
