The patient was sent home with the diagnosis of urinary tract infection – but died later due to the rupture of the aortic artery.

Now, Region Värmland is making a lex Maria report due to the incorrect diagnosis.

It was known that the patient had a growing aneurysm on the large aortic artery. Before a planned radiological examination could be performed, the patient however sought emergency care due to pains in the side and lower part of the abdomen, the region writes on its website.

In the hospital, it was assumed that it was a urinary tract infection, but after returning home the patient became unconscious and died later.
