It was called "Pokémon with weapons" when "Palworld" was released at the beginning of the year and quickly became a sales-wise flop.
A bit too much "Pokémon", thinks Nintendo, which, together with The Pokémon Company, is suing the creators Pocketpair in a patent lawsuit filed with a court in Tokyo.
"This lawsuit aims to obtain an injunction and damages due to 'Palworld', a game developed and released by the defendant, infringing on several patent rights", writes Nintendo.
It is unclear exactly what Nintendo believes Pocketpair did wrong, although there are obvious similarities between "Palworld" and "Pokémon", not least in the design of the monsters to be caught.
Pocketpair has previously defended itself by saying that it never had any intention of violating copyright.
