In the first attack on central Beirut in several weeks, during Sunday morning, Mohammed Afif, one of the highest spokespeople of the Iran-backed militia, was among the dead, confirms Hizbollah according to AFP.
Later on Sunday, another densely populated area in central Beirut was attacked, resulting in multiple deaths.
Lebanese soldiers killed
Tens of attacks, which totally destroyed many buildings, were carried out in the capital area over the weekend.
In southern Lebanon, the bombings have continued, mainly in the port city of Tyre and nearby villages and communities.
According to the news agency AFP, which refers to information from the Lebanese Health Department, eleven people were killed and 48 injured in the attacks in the Tyre area. The area is characterized as one where Hizbollah has strong roots.
Israel has issued warnings on social media ahead of the attacks, and urged residents to leave the areas.
Two soldiers from Lebanon's military – which is not part of the war between Israel and Hizbollah – were killed in an attack, the military announces, accusing Israel of deliberately targeting its position in southern Lebanon.
Ongoing ground battles
Hizbollah has, according to Israel's military, fired a total of about a hundred projectiles at Israel since Saturday, without reports of any serious injuries.
