The 35-year-old who has been identified as the suspected perpetrator has been described as a loner who has lived an isolated life without income for the past ten years.
The man and Maria Jabar Khail only met a few times during the four-year period they were neighbors in Örebro. When they did meet, she experienced him as evasive.
It felt like he always had to hurry in and out of the stairwell. He didn't want to talk to anyone. It felt like he disliked all the other neighbors. If he was standing by the elevator and someone else came, he took the stairs instead, she says, and continues to tell about a memory from their shared laundry room:
I happened to overrun the time by five minutes and apologized to him, but I didn't get any response back. He closed the door and seemed to want to be alone.
When she found out that he had been identified for the deed in Örebro, she was filled with a sense of discomfort.
It feels unsafe to have had such a neighbor. When you walk past his door, you feel bad. What would have happened if I had met him in the stairwell when he was on his way out? You feel bad about what has happened and all my thoughts go to the victims.
The police have stated that the suspected perpetrator is not previously known. The police have not yet officially confirmed his identity.
