Two players in France's rugby national team have been detained on suspicion of sexual assault in Argentina, according to AFP.
The crime is said to have taken place during France's ongoing national team gathering in South America, where they played a test match against Argentina.
The two players will now be taken from Buenos Aires to Mendoza, where the crime is said to have been committed, for investigation.
If the investigations match the victim's testimony, a relevant prosecution will follow, says Martin Ahumada, spokesperson for Mendoza's prosecution authority, to AFP.
According to local media, the crime was committed at the hotel where the French team was staying in connection with the weekend's match.
If all facts are proven, it's very serious. One must spare a thought for the young woman. It's the opposite of everything rugby is. But one must let the investigation take its course, says Florian Grill, chairman of the French rugby federation.
The French rugby national team is scheduled to travel to Montevideo on Tuesday to play against Uruguay on Wednesday. The team will then return to Buenos Aires for another test match against Argentina.
The detention of the two players comes a day after rugby star Melvyn Jaminet was sent home from the French national team gathering for a racist comment in a video.
