The prevailing economic climate continues to affect the culture and entertainment industry. The organisers of the Roygalan, which annually rewards Sweden's best commercials, announce that the event is being scaled back due to economic reasons.
This means that categories such as Sweden's best music video, animation, costume designer, and set designer are being dropped for this year's awards ceremony.
"Although we are not able to arrange a full-scale gala this year, we are very pleased to have found a solution that will enable us to highlight the best in Swedish commercials even in 2024", says Sophie Tamm Christensen, chair of the Film & TV Producers' commercial film section, in a press release.
The first edition of the Roygalan took place in 2003. The event is named after the director Roy Andersson, who has alternated between feature film production and commercials since the 1970s.
This year's awards ceremony will take place in October.
