Several municipalities turn off their street lighting during the summer to save money, reports TV4 Nyheterna. Lycksele, Umeå, Luleå, and Östersund are among the municipalities that are disconnecting the power.
In Östersund, they have previously had street lighting in operation for a few hours a day during the summers, but are now turning it off completely. The cost savings are estimated to be 300,000 kronor.
The measure is criticized by local residents who believe it poses a risk to safety.
